The Christmas Fairy

Howard Bradshaw

I'm the Fairy on the tree

And I'm such a festive sight,

With the candles lit around me,

All aglow and shining bright.

The children gaze in wonder

At me, shining in the night.

When they see the presents under,

There are squeals of delight.

But it's not all Christmas gladness,

There's something not quite right;

If you want to know the truth

I'm really aching to take flight.

It's agony with itching

From the needles in my tights –

And what use is a fairy

When he's got no head for heights?
