Why Paradise Press? Paradise Press is the imprint of GASPS (Gay Authors Self-Publishing Society), a publishing collective that produces a wide range of literature by lesbians and gay men. Authors submit their books to the collective; if the book is approved, the author can then join the collective and benefit from Paradise Press services. Once a book is accepted, authors join the collective and pay for the design and printing of their own books under the PP imprint. The Press undertakes a range of services for each book, including allocation of ISBN numbers, distribution of titles and advertising. Authors contribute to these costs at rate which (including membership of GASPS) currently comes to less than £50 a year, in addition to the costs of printing. Thanks to modern technology, printing costs need not be high, particularly since small print runs (under 100 copies) are feasible. Three Paradise Press authors give their viewpoint on self-publishing this way. These views do not reflect the opinion of the collective as a whole but give an idea of the range of motives behind GASPS and possibilities open to new and established authors.
